| Hotels Caserta:Hotel Aurelio |
Strategically located just 500 metres from the Caserta Nord exit on the A1 Napoli-Roma motorway, the Hotel Aurelio draws on its years of hospitality sector experience to make your stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible. We also manage the Albergo del Golfo in the old town centre of Naples.
Our strategic location makes us the ideal place to stay when travelling for business or pleasure because the entire Province of Caserta is within easy reach, including the area's most interesting tourist destinations. Being close to the motorway means that it is not only easy to reach Naples, just 20 minutes away, but also the archaeological excavations at Pompeii and Herculaneum, the jewels of the Amalfi coast and splendid Sorrento. The Reggia di Caserta, a majestic and imposing Bourbon royal palace, is just 2 km from the hotel. |
The Bourbons embellished and modernised the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies with many splendid works and buildings. The Reggia di Caserta is universally recognized as their highest achievement. It was designed, in large part, by the Dutch architect Ludwig Van Wittel, whose name was italianised as Vanvitelli. It was commissioned by Charles VII of Naples who ordered the construction of a "residence" fit for a Bourbon sovereign and his court. He wanted a residence that was not in Naples but nearby (an obvious reference to Versailles) and a new construction that would be the largest and most beautiful palace in the world after Versailles to honour the new kingdom he had conquered. Just a few kilometres from the hotel, near Caserta, you will find San Leucio. |
San Leucio is something more than just another "Bourbon site": it was a revolutionary socio-economic institution. In 1773, Ferdinand IV ordered the construction of a building to rest in during the hunt, later called the "Vaccheria". However, a tragic event occurred there in 1778, when the hereditary Prince Charles Titus died. The two sovereigns were racked with grief and no longer wanted to live there, so the king decided to dedicate it to a more useful purpose. |
The ancient baronial farmhouse of the Acquaviva family was not far from the Vaccheria. Ferdinand has a brilliant idea: he commissioned a student of Vanvitelli, Francesco Collecini, to expand and convert the Belvedere into a textile mill and to build an industrial city around it to house the workers complete with laws, work rules and living standards. The community of San Leucio became famous throughout the world as one of the first attempts at agrarian |
socialism with an Illuminist, and even utopian, character, although Ferdinand was more motivated by a healthy royal paternalism. You can also visit countless other sites of historical and archaeological interest that are, perhaps, less famous but certainly worth seeing, such as the Amphitheatre Campano in Capua that, in Roman times, was second only to the Coliseum, the Museo dell’Antica Capua or the Museo Provinciale Campano. |

From our hotel, it is easy to reach the industrial area, just a few kilometres away on the motorway at the Caserta Sud exit, where there are various types of factories and also “Il Tarì,” the largest gold jewellery centre in Southern Italy. |
